Provide Framework

The GNI Principles on Freedom of Expression and Privacy and Implementation Guidelines, together with a growing suite of co-developed tools and resources, provide a framework for responsible decision-making applicable to a wide-range of tech companies, including cloud services, content platforms, equipment vendors, search engines, software providers, and telecom companies. These resources are made publicly available to all actors interested in responsible tech company decision making.

This framework sets expectations and provides guidance on establishing effective internal governance, assessing and addressing risk through due diligence, respecting freedom of expression and privacy, and conducting meaningful stakeholder engagement and transparency. GNI’s unique accountability mechanism provides insights into how leading tech companies are meeting these expectations, which in turn feed back into our efforts to develop resources, share learning, and advocate on behalf of human rights.

GNI constantly engages with governments, international organizations, and others in order to share the lessons we have learned, and articulate and assess responsible business conduct in the tech sector.
