Jamaica holds a special place in Karina, LeBlanc, C.M.'s heart - so when Hurricane Melissa hit, she didn’t just see the devastation; she felt it. The hurricane has left destruction across the Caribbean that families can’t face alone. Together, we can help children and communities rebuild. 💙 🔗 Support UNICEF Canada’s emergency response by donating at unicef.ca

Children are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis. From floods and heatwaves to droughts and pollution, their health, education, and safety are all at risk. But a better future for children is still within reach, if we act now. 🌍 Last week's #COP30 brought world leaders together to accelerate global climate action in Belém, Brazil. UNICEF is calling on leaders to: 1️⃣ Protect children and the essential services they rely on (water, health, education) 2️⃣ Reduce emissions and transition away from fossil fuels 3️⃣ Empower children and youth to take part in climate decision-making

I don’t know who got to hold the pen, but 34 years ago this week, Canada signed on to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. November 20th – now known as National Child Day – commemorates that moment. The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. And it isn’t a symbolic gesture. It’s a legally binding agreement adopted by the United Nations that changed the way children were treated in law: as full human beings worthy of distinct rights. There’s one organization cited within it, as an expert in what children need and deserve: UNICEF. One of the rights in the Convention is the right to be a central part of policy making and decision making. This week, graduates of UNICEF Canada's Youth Advocacy Program saw this right realized with powerful opportunities to share their views and voices directly with decision makers. Profound thanks to the many leaders in Ottawa who held meetings, rich discussions, and special events with our youth advocates and our amazing partners this week. Without question, the best natural resources we have in this country are our young people. 🤜🏼 👇🏼 #EveryRightForEveryChild

Yesterday we paused to listen to young people, and today UNICEF Canada and our partners roll-up our sleeves and get back to work, more invigorated than ever, to advocate with and for children and youth. Alongside 13 of our partners we are urging the Canadian Government to put children at the centre of policy and investment. This includes a specific ask to swiftly pass Bill S212 - a National Strategy for Children and Youth, and to explicitly protect children around the world from the recent cuts in Canada's foreign assistance envelope. Because UNICEF Canada and our partners will continue to lead, advocate, and act to ensure no child is left behind.
