Last week, #RMPatPM had the privilege of hosting Dr. Lauren Henke and Dr. Alex Price from University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University as international guest lecturers. Dr. Henke and Dr. Price shared valuable insights and lessons learned in liver, pancreas, and upper GI Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), sparking engaging discussions with our team. A big thank you to Dr. Henke and Dr. Price for the outstanding lectures and for advancing knowledge in this important area of radiation oncology! #RadiationOncology #SBRT

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is proud to announce the launch of its Head & Neck HDR Brachytherapy (Interventional Radiotherapy) Program, an important milestone expanding treatment options for patients with primary, recurrent, or metastatic head and neck tumours, as well as other superficial soft tissue sites. Initiated by Dr. Nauman Malik (Clinical Lead), Karen Tse (Program Lead), and Christopher MKL Yao (Surgical Lead), this program brings modern, image-guided high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy with individualized 3D planning to Princess Margaret. It complements existing surgical and external-beam radiotherapy approaches, enabling precise, localized interventional radiotherapy tailored to each patient’s needs. This achievement reflects exceptional collaboration across Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics, Radiation Therapy, Nursing, and Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, and establishes a strong foundation for future innovations in interventional and adaptive radiotherapy. Congratulations to everyone whose expertise and teamwork made this launch possible!

Thank you co-authors and the Radiation Medicine Program Brachytherapy Team for giving me this opportunity to report on our work!! Intra-operative process efficiency for in-room MRI-guided combined intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy for cervical cancer. Brachytherapy Volume 24, Issue 5, September–October 2025, Pages 729-737 Magnetic resonance image-guided brachytherapy (MRgBT) is the gold-standard treatment for cervical cancer. This study examined workflow times in an integrated MRgBT suite and conventional operating room (OR), and factors contributing to intraoperative efficiency. https://lnkd.in/gveqVCgp

🫁New target to enhance radiotherapy for small cell lung cancer A team led by Dr. Benjamin L., Clinician Scientist at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, performed a genetic screening with a gene-editing tool called CRISPR to find ways to make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation. When researchers removed the function of gene HDAC3, either by silencing the gene or using a drug called RGFP96, small cell lung cancer cells became more sensitive to radiation. This effect was also observed in cancer models, where tumour growth was inhibited.
