  • “[The Canadian Red Cross] was the first workplace where I truly felt like I belonged.”💭 Sheila Rogers' experience as a Canadian Red Cross staff member stirred something deep within her. There, she met “dedicated, passionate and caring fellow employees” that shared her values of caring for humanity. Inspired by their dedication to helping others, Sheila chose to ensure that future generations would receive help in times of disaster by including the Canadian Red Cross in her Will. ➡️Read her full story here: https://brnw.ch/21wXWBE ➡️Learn more about including a gift in your Will: https://brnw.ch/21wXWBF

  • In eastern Cuba, communities continue to recover from the impact of Category-3 Hurricane Melissa which made landfall just over a month ago. The storm triggered flash floods, landslides and tidal surges threatening lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure, hitting the same region that was severely impacted by Hurricane Oscar in October 2024. The Cuban Red Cross, with the support of Red Cross Red Crescent Movement partners coordinated by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, is on the ground distributing relief items - including shelter kits - to people who have been impacted. • “The aim is to support the local colleagues, so I hope to maybe relieve them if they have been working nonstop since the hurricane.” Dr. Tuuli Lehtivuori, an Outpatient Department Doctor with the Finnish Red Cross [ Finnish Red Cross - Suomen Punainen Risti ] is working with the Canadian Red Cross emergency medical clinic team in Jamaica, supporting local colleagues. A Canadian Red Cross emergency medical clinic has been mobilized to Jamaica along with a multidisciplinary team of Red Cross humanitarian experts, with support from the Government of Canada ( Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada ) and donors. Their efforts will complement and strengthen the work of the Jamaica Red Cross. Thank you to Dr. Lehtivuori and Red Cross teams who are working to support people impacted by Hurricane Melissa.❤️

  • 📍The Canadian Red Cross is on the ground supporting those impacted by Hurricane Melissa. We have sent humanitarian experts specializing in Movement coordination, communications, shelter, health and operations to support the response in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Two of these positions are being funded by the Government of Canada (Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada) to help meet urgent needs. ⤵️Dr. Frode Oosterling, an Outpatient Department Doctor with the Canadian Red Cross emergency medical clinic team, is on the ground in Jamaica for his sixth Red Cross mission. For him, this deployment is deeply personal: “I was here 39 years ago on my very first Red Cross mission. I was here as a youth delegate for the Norwegian Red Cross, so I arrived here when I was 18 years old, and I stayed here from September until June, so a whole academic year, so to speak. Therefore, it's very special for me to be back in Jamaica.” A big thank you to Dr. Oosterling and Red Cross teams who are working around the clock to support those impacted by Hurricane Melissa.❤️

  • In October 2025, severe rains swept across central and eastern Mexico, triggering record-breaking floods. In just 36 hours, overflowing rivers destroyed homes, damaged infrastructures, and caused power outages, landslides, road damage and sinkholes. In the aftermath of this disaster, several hundred thousand people are impacted, with many lives lost and thousands displaced from their communities. The Mexican Red Cross swiftly mobilized volunteers from across the country to the hardest-hit areas, where they tirelessly delivered humanitarian aid and distributed essential supplies – including food parcels, hygiene items, and cleaning kits. Using boats, ambulances, and rescue vehicles, teams successfully evacuated families and provided critical pre-hospital care. Mexican Red Cross teams emphasize a people-first approach. Their diverse volunteer base reflects the communities they serve, and response efforts prioritize seniors, women, children, and others in situations of heightened vulnerability. Working with the Canadian Red Cross, the Government of Canada (Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada) has provided financial support to the Mexican Red Cross to help them meet these urgent needs. This collaborative effort will ensure the rapid delivery of essential humanitarian aid to people impacted. In the face of such devastation, this timely, people-centered financial assistance is helping the Mexican Red Cross teams to continue providing hope and immediate lifesaving assistance – one person at a time. 💙 📷: Mexican Red Cross

  • The Canadian Red Cross would like to thank Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State (International Development), for meeting with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and touring their Subic Bay warehouse and training centres. This visit reflects the strong, long-standing collaboration between the Canadian Red Cross and the Affaires mondiales Canada | Global Affairs Canada in supporting PRC’s lifesaving work. For over a decade, Canadian support has helped strengthen emergency response capacity across the Philippines – including the emergency field hospital deployed after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, which the Philippine Red Cross continues to operate during emergencies. This partnership remains vital. Recent contributions from Affaires mondiales Canada | Global Affairs Canada have supported PRC’s response to current emergencies, including the release of emergency stocks for families impacted by the Cebu earthquake. We are honoured to stand alongside PRC as they continue protecting lives, building resilience, and helping communities recover.
