A new partnership between Alberta and Canada will position the country as a global energy superpower. Canada and Alberta have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that aims to advance multiple ambitious large-scale projects. This agreement will shape Canada's future and strengthen economic opportunities in Alberta and Western Canada. The MOU realizes the tremendous potential in Alberta's energy sector and the role the province plays in renewable and traditional energy, as well as in carbon capture innovation. The MOU emphasizes the engagement of Indigenous Peoples through meaningful consultation toward advancing economic opportunities through Indigenous ownership and partnerships. The MOU establishes a joint commitment to build the infrastructure needed for Canada to compete globally. Key opportunities include: - Large-scale AI data centres with thousands of megawatts of new computing power to support Canada’s sovereign digital economy. - New private-sector led pipelines with greater access to Asian markets, strengthening Canada’s energy security and economic independence. - Extend federal ITCs and other policy supports to encourage large-scale CCUS investments, such as Pathways Plus, one of the world's largest carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects, allowing Alberta to export oil with some of the world's lowest carbon intensity. - Major transmission interties with British Columbia and Saskatchewan, enabling lower-cost power access across Western Canada. This grid enhancement will help power both domestic industry and energy-intensive export opportunities. Under this partnership, both governments will streamline regulatory processes, align long-term carbon pricing frameworks, expand clean energy development, and reinforce the grid required to power next-generation industries including AI, critical minerals, CCUS, and advanced manufacturing. Alberta and Canada will continue working closely with Indigenous Peoples, neighbouring provinces, industry leaders, and other key stakeholders to move these projects forward responsibly. This collaboration reinforces Big Bold Alberta’s role in creating the conditions for high-impact, high-value investments that advance Canada’s economic strength. #InvestAlberta #BigBoldAlberta #Alberta #Canada

🌱 One of the world’s largest and lowest-cost direct air capture systems is now underway in Alberta. Read more -https://lnkd.in/gjY2NyuT UK-based Airhive has officially begun operations at its new direct air capture (DAC) facility in Innisfail, marking another advancement in Alberta’s growing clean technology ecosystem. As part of the Deep Sky Alpha project, Airhive's facility is capturing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere at significantly lower costs. Once fully operational, Airhive expects the cost of DAC credits from its system to fall below $500 per tonne, a major reduction in a sector where prices have typically remained near $1,000 per tonne. This milestone highlights the advantages of developing carbon removal technologies in a jurisdiction with strong public and private sector support, world-class industrial infrastructure, clear regulations, and a business-friendly environment. Airhive plans to build a larger facility in Alberta that will capture CO2 and supply carbon credits to companies with net-zero targets. Alberta continues to emerge as a launchpad for breakthrough technologies that strengthen the province’s clean energy ecosystem and diversify the economy.
