In partnership with BC Housing, CHV’s Temporary Winter Shelter program is back! There are 12 beds available nightly, for youth age 19–24. The program runs at CHV’s Drop-In Centre, every evening from 10:00pm–8:30am, on a first come, first served basis. Youth can access services such as a hot shower, food, and clean clothing, and learn more about everything that Covenant House has to offer. To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/gsbBhEf2.

Providing unconditional love, relentless support, and absolute respect for young people as they overcome homelessness
About us
Covenant House Vancouver’s purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to protect and safeguard all youth in need. We help young people aged 16 to 24 who have fled physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; those who have been forced from their homes; those who have experienced human trafficking and those who have aged out of foster care with no supports. Covenant House relies on the generosity of over 50,000 individuals and organizations to provide shelter, food, clothing and counselling to over 100 individual young people every day. Covenant House Vancouver offers a raft of wrap-around services in addition to our core programs. We use evidence-informed theories and practices that ensure they care for the entire person – mind, body, and spirit. Services range from outreach and drop-in to residential and support services that enable youth to transition into independence successfully. CHV uses a “one size, fits one” approach, tailored to the specific needs of each individual youth. This ensures that precise supports are made available to youth based on their respective journey meeting each youth’s unique needs.

Ali’s story is like many we have seen at Covenant House Vancouver. After leaving home due to family rejection, Ali was couch surfing, until a local 2SLGBTQIA+ organization connected them to Covenant House Vancouver. Through our Crisis Program, Ali focused on mental health, found joy in music and basketball, and began building a future. At CHV, we provide more than shelter—we offer support, dignity, and opportunity. Thanks to Scotiabank and The Steven Chambers Foundation, your donation will be matched, up to $100,000. Let’s help youth, like Ali, reach their full potential: https://lnkd.in/gsjvHKD3. #SocialImpact #YouthEmpowerment #EndYouthHomelessness #CovenantHouseVancouver #MatchedGiving

Another incredible Sleep Out! This annual event is where local business leaders give up their beds for a night to raise funds and awareness for homeless youth. 💙 Participants toured our facility — gaining a firsthand look at the programs and services that their generosity will help support. The night began with Covenant House CEO Deb Lester and Sleep Out Cabinet Member Steve Munford sharing their insights about the urgency of the youth homelessness crisis. Though participants may feel cold and uncomfortable tonight, this is just a small fraction of what homeless youth experience. #CHSleepOut #CovenantHouseVancouver #EndYouthHomelessness

Sleep Out is here! Tonight, a caring group of business and community leaders will give up their beds and sleep in a downtown alley to help combat youth homelessness. 💙 As night falls, our 40+ participants will bundle into sleeping bags and lay out cardboard to prepare for the chilly night ahead. Thank you to BC Place Stadium, Canada Place, and the Vancouver Convention Centre (including the Olympic Cauldron!) for recognizing Sleep Out and lighting up blue. 🤩 🙌 Will you join the Sleep Out movement? You may not be sleeping out yourself, but you can support by sponsoring a participant. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gaHTmWEu. #CHSleepOut #CovenantHouseVancouver #EndYouthHomelessness

This November 15 is National Philanthropy Day where we recognize the impact that philanthropy has on communities and individuals. Our Philanthropy team is pivotal to the work we do at Covenant House Vancouver. We are 80% privately funded. This means we can more easily adjust our programs to meet the needs of youth. On today’s National Day of Philanthropy, we are especially grateful to organizations like Scotiabank, who is contributing $50,000, matching every dollar donated, until December 31.

World Kindness Day was created to promote a kinder world. At Covenant House Vancouver (CHV), we see kindness expressed in a variety of ways. Donations help fund our programs and services, and support youth in a variety of ways, such as excursions, self-care, experiences, and self-expression. This kindness shows youth that people care about them and their futures, and that a community doesn’t thrive unless all of its members are thriving. Last year, 110 individuals volunteered every month on average, and 62 corporate donor groups helped around CHV, in a variety of ways. We would like to do a shout out to Scotiabank who have been supporting CHV since 2018, through donations and volunteering. This fall, we are grateful to Scotiabank who is contributing $50,000, to match every dollar donated, until December 31.

🔊 Deb Lester, CEO of Covenant House Vancouver, shares her insight into the complex causes of youth homelessness—from aging out of foster care to family rejection. “Homelessness is not an individual issue, it’s a societal one.” One of our ways to get ahead of this problem is prevention. We aim to intervene early and offer youth the support they need to thrive.
