Due to changing international accounting standards, Canada’s securities regulators are proposing updates to ensure financial measure disclosures remain clear, consistent and comparable. The revisions concern how companies present financial measures and additional subtotals outside of their financial statements. Will Osler KC, Mia Bacic, Ali Naushahi and Tinashe Muzah explain the proposed changes and their potential impact on issuers. https://ow.ly/grIT50Xz8Fz #SecuritiesRegulation #CapitalMarkets #FinancialDisclosure

This week we had the honour, with a distinguished group of current and former senior policy leaders, to celebrate the career of our friend David Dodge with his life companion of close to 50 years, Chris Dodge. David retired from Bennett Jones after 16 years with the firm, following an exceptional career in public service, including as Governor of the Bank of Canada, Deputy Minister of Finance and Deputy Minister of Health. Bennett Jones' Executive Chair and Chair of the Board John Mercury recognized David as one of the foremost policy leaders of his generation, while Michael Sabia, Clerk of the Privy Council, referred to David as one of the greatest public servants in the country's history. The Honourable John Manley, Governor of the Bank of Canada Tiff Macklem, Eddie Goldenberg and many other former colleagues of David's in public service and from Bennett Jones were also present to pay tribute to this outstanding Canadian. David shared his reflections on the past decades of public finance policy and lessons for leaders today in rising up to the challenges of a changing world. In the words of Bennett Jones' Head of Public Policy Serge Dupont, it was "vintage David." 📷: Jean-Marc Carisse

We are proud to share that Bennett Jones acted for defendants in one of Lexpert's Top 10 Business Decisions of 2024–2025: Cheng v. Glencore plc et al., in which we successfully had a putative representative action seeking nearly C$800 million in damages for alleged oppression dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. This landmark Yukon Court of Appeal ruling is the first Canadian appellate decision to define the territorial scope of the corporate oppression remedy and clarifies the oppression remedy's jurisdictional boundaries. Congratulations to Cheryl Woodin, Joseph Blinick and Tom Feore for their outstanding work on behalf of our clients. https://ow.ly/4xTg50XxPiR #LexpertTop10 #CorporateLaw #BusinessLaw
